Seven Ways for Dad to Help Out Mom on Weekends

Do you want to help, Dad, but you just don't know how? Your guy friends' suggestions just are not working right now? Sometimes you need advice from a woman's point of view. Trust me; you are looking in the right place.

Let her sleep in. Between midnight diaper changes and chasing after children all day, moms get exhausted too. Let her take advantage of your days off and give her a break. As worn out and tired as she is she could probably sleep for days straight.

Clean up the house. That pile of laundry could be folded. The dirty dishes need washed. The washer and dryer don't take a genius to figure out. Floors could use some vacuuming, and the counters need wiped off. Even the simplest things you could do moms would appreciate. Anything to take a little stress off of her plate is what is needed. Quit leaving your dirty socks on the floor: you know where they go, too. If the trash needs to be taken out, don't make her tell you twice.

Bath the kids. Come-on dad! Get in there and splash with them. Everything doesn't always have to be serious. Have fun while they're getting clean.

Cook. Just because meals taste better from mom doesn't mean they always have to be made from her. Dad, you can make simple things if cooking is hard for you. Some simple things could include: Hamburgers, hamburger helper, macaroni and cheese, and sloppy joes. Spark up that grill. We know you love it. Quit letting it sit around and get some use out of it! You didn't buy it for the looks.

Let her go out. You have your night with the guys for football, or whatever you please. Let her have her night out even if it is just a movie with the girls or coffee and girl talk. You are focusing on her relaxation. Don't make her worry about the kids or the house; it is her night. Take care of everything while she goes out and has fun. We all know this doesn't happen often. So when it does, let her enjoy it.

Step up. When the kids ask her for something, don't make her get up. Take the initiative to get it yourself and make them start asking you for stuff instead of her. Explain to them that mom needs rest on the weekend. Tell your children instead of making mommy get up and fetch or do stuff for them to ask daddy. You can do it just as well as mommy can.

Take time alone with her. After a hectic week, it's comforting and relaxing to just be able to cuddle and talk with you, Dad. We don't always have to be on the go. Take time to spend with her alone. Put the kids in bed and pop in a movie to cuddle up and watch it together. You don't have to go out to spend time together. Stay in, because it's so much more peaceful.

We know you are tired after a long work week, but moms have more than one job. Moms are the nanny, dishwasher, laundromat, housekeeper, chauffeur and the cook every night. Moms are on the job twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, all year long. Give moms a night off. Moms deserve it every once in a while.

Two Opinions on Baby Names

While looking into search patterns I stumbled upon the fact that parents to be or other people that have an interest in baby names are divided into to major groups. Nothing special about the fact that people belong to different groups but this one shows a trend that has been gaining strength for the last 5-10 years.

On one side we have the parents that are searching for phrases like "top 100 baby names", "top ten baby names", "popular baby names" etc. All of these phrases have in common that the surfer is looking for what everyone else is naming their baby.

Now don't get me wrong... There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to call your baby a commonly used name. There can many reasons for wanting to name your baby boy or baby girl the same name as most other kids. A reason could be that you want the baby to be socially accepted when he or she grows up and starts playing with other children.

Another reason would be that it might be easier for the baby to get called in for a job interview and maybe even get the job. It can be a tradition in the family to name the babies the name that ranks number 1 in the previous year.

There can be a lot of reasons for naming a baby after the majority of the babies born in that time period. This is not the part that got my attention.

What got my attention was that on the other side there is a similar large group of parents that is looking for the exact opposite. They are searching for phrases like "unusual baby names", odd baby names", unique baby names" etc.

Again the reasons for wanting an unusual baby name can be many and I can only guess what they might be but from what is happening in society I think that some of the most obvious reasons are these:

You want to show the outside world that your baby is something special. By giving your child a name that only a few people carry then you have made them special. They now have a name that will (probably) be easier for other people to remember because of the fact that they haven't heard the name before.

A second reason can be that it has become a trend to name you child a unique name. Over the years this trend has been increasing and like with the common name a special name can now apply status as well.

Why people are divided into these categories no one knows. There is naturally still the third category left and that are the ones searching for neutral baby names. It is hard to say anything specific about these search patterns but it is a fact that they exist and there is nothing right or wrong no matter what category you might fall into.

Tips for avoiding accidents in the home

We all try to be responsible and look after for our own safety when we go out, especially when we go somewhere new and unfamiliar, we’re constantly on the look out for hidden dangers and things that could cause us harm; but some people seem to neglect this instinct in their own homes. This may be because our homes are so familiar to us and we think we know every aspect of it or it might be because we associate the home with the chance to relax, we don’t necessarily want to be thinking about all the dangers we might face there.

But what some people don’t realize is that over 2 million people are injured in their own homes each year in Britain, and thousands have accidents which prove fatal; so making sure you and your family stay safe and secure while in the house should be at the forefront of everyone’s mind.

There are many causes of household accidents. Most can be avoided with a little common sense and awareness.

It’s especially important to check your property for potential hazards when you have young children in the house.

Baby proofing products might seem like a pain to the adults in the house but they might mean the difference between life and death for your youngster.

Putting locks or safety latches on low level cupboard doors and similar things will stop baby trapping fingers and finding dangerous cleaning chemicals, for example.

Another major hazard for children and adults alike are the stairs. Make sure to have a secure gate fixed at the top and bottom of the staircase if you have children who might try to climb.

Fitting a secure railing or banister is vital, especially on steep staircases. Many adults injure themselves falling down stairs because they do not have anything secure to hold onto.

Household appliances are also a big cause of accidents in the home. It is important to make certain they are connected properly and any leads and wires are not damaged or exposed.

If there is a problem and it is the manufacturers fault you should contact them immediately and arrange a repair; do not just leave a faulty item thinking it will be ok, electrical items can cause fires and other accidents in your home, so never take the chance.

Cooking accidents are one of the biggest causes of injury in the home so be extra vigilant when using cooking equipment. Always keep a fire extinguisher in the house to deal with fire if it should occur. Never leave your food alone while it is cooking, especially if you’re using an open hob, and never let children or pets near to the cooker while it’s on.

It’s a good idea to teach fire safety to your children at a young age so that they always know what to do and the best ways to avoid dangers in the kitchen.

It goes without saying to always have a fire alarm installed and to check it has working batteries at least twice a month.

Sometimes though, you can do everything possible to keep your family safe but still experience an injury in the home.

If it was caused by something beyond your control, you should always consider taking legal action against those responsible, just as you would in any other circumstance. Just because your accident happened within your home doesn’t automatically make it your responsibility. Faulty equipment, for example, or something else that was not your fault, might have resulted directly to your situation and you should remember you have the right to justice and, in some cases, compensation.

Whatever you do in your home, make sure you take every precaution against dangers, both obvious and hidden.

This should feel like the safest place for you and your family, so do you best to make certain that it is.

Fun and Festive Ideas For Thanksgiving Gifts!

American Thanksgiving all started during 1621 when Native Americans celebrated a three-day feast for surviving the country's first difficult winter. Thanksgiving today is known to be a very special holiday celebrated yearly during the 4th Thursday when autumn is at its best, November.

During Thanksgiving people usually gather, as friends or as families, and express their gratitude towards God for a fruitful year. Aside from the acknowledgements made by people during this day, another highlight of most Thanksgiving celebrations is actually the dinner you are to have during the gathering.

It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without the deliciously roasted and seasoned turkey at the center of the table. It's been a tradition for years and years to have turkey as dinner's main dish every Thanksgiving that some even call the special holiday "Turkey day."

The gathering can also be an opportunity not only for hosts but for everyone present to acknowledge their friends, colleagues, and family for being in their lives. This is an opportunity to fix conflicts you have with anyone and do some patch ups with loved ones you rarely see because of regular busy days.

It's also very common between Americans to exchange gift during this holiday to express their gratitude towards each other. They usually give out food or something they could eat for Thanksgiving dinner.

Of course, each person's tastes are different so they usually give out food that is accepted by the local community. But that doesn't stop certain people from giving out food that are exotic. Some prefer to give out home made goods, which is actually good and thoughtful. More people prefer home made goods because it's a lot more special than just buying goods from stores.

Everyone appreciates good food, even the corporate can agree to that. There's actually a lot to choose from when it comes to food given as gifts for Thanksgiving. There's a wide variety to choose from. The most popular we have is the traditional turkey. Either smoke or roasted both are equally delicious.

There's also ham, smoked or however you want it, which is ideally given along with deliciously homemade mashed potatoes and gravy, veggies, corn, or breads.

If you don't like going to your local markets, you can also order food to be delivered as gifts from the internet. You might even find a wider variety online. But before purchasing it's best to read the buyer's feedbacks on that item you are planning on buying first.

Items should have reasonable or fair prices and the quality should be in accordance with standards. If you're not sure about certain things, play safe. A trusted company will always have a lot of positive feedbacks.

On Child Neglect

In the US, an estimated 906,000 children are victims of abuse & neglect every year. Child abuse can be physical, emotional, sexual, or take the form of child neglect. Child abuse cuts across all social classes and ethnicities.

The abuse overwhelmingly is at the hands of those who are supposed to be protecting the child; the parents, other relatives, teachers, pastors etc.  This article focuses on child neglect. Recognizing these signs may someday enable you to help a child suffering from neglect.

NEGLECT

Child neglect is the most prevalent form of child abuse.  Child neglect occurs when the responsible adult fails to adequately provide for various needs of the child, including but not limited to the following:

Physical Neglect - Failure to provide shelter, food and/or clothing.  Failure to provide adequate or needed medical attention also falls under this category and can result in poor overall health and compounded medical problems in the future.

Emotional Neglect - Failure to provide nurturance, support and affection. Ignoring, rejecting, terrorizing or verbally abusing (belittling) a child usually leads to low self esteem, future alcohol or drug abuse, destructive behavior and even suicide.

Exposing a child to illegal activities such as drug and alcohol abuse or encouraging/allowing a child to use either or both is another form of child neglect.

Failure to provide a child with adequate education (especially for special needs children) is also characterized as neglect, as it poses a serious threat to the child’s emotional well-being and normal psychological development resulting in the child’s inability to acquire basic life skills.

SIGNS

Inappropriate dress.  Clothes may be too big or small, dirty or not appropriate for the season.  The child’s hygiene is poor and he/she appears unsupervised and may be violent towards other children or entirely withdrawn and passive.  May often arrive to school late and perform poorly or not at all.  The child usually does not Parents seem largely absent from the child’s life.  Bruises may appear on the child’s face and body due to frequent accidental injuries indicative of lack of supervision.  The child may be suffering from a medical condition that she/he is not receiving treatment for and may often be hungry and/or appear malnourished.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

If you suspect that a child is suffering from neglect report it to your local child protective services agency or contact the police.  Professionals who work with children are required by law to report reasonable suspicion of abuse and neglect to the police.  For more information on child abuse in general see the link below.

Family Life

My husband and I are at the age and stage of considering an investment to secure our old age

To this end, we recently began looking into what form the investment would take, and whether we could even afford it, what with school fees and the usual bills to cover.

Settling on real estate was a logical conclusion for us. The rent would pay for the interest, and the house had the potential for lodgings when we kicked the kids out of the nest. After a couple of false starts, a few discouraging viewings, we found our little gem. Nothing too fancy, indeed, a bit of rescue remedy was needed to bring the lustre back to this particular pearl.

We worked on the yard at first, ripping down an old shed (check everything, we might find hidden treasure), and then the mandatory weeding, trimming, mowing to get the outside polished and primped for inspection.

Inside, steaming off 70’s wall-paper proved a steep but satisfying learning curve, my husband bowing to my ascendancy with the steamer and scraper. I had crowing rights for at least five minutes – was it worth it? We repainted, recarpeted and cleaned until finally we were done. What were we to do with all the goodies we found? The fifties dressing tables and TV’s, multitude of saucepans and electrical appliances? And what about the gravestone?

The late owner of the house had evidently had his gravestone made, preferring to keep it in the garage at home instead of the usual choice of leaving it with the stonemason. What do you do with someone else’s gravestone? Do you take it to the tip and hope no one sees what you are dumping (and deal with the guilt later)? Do you keep it as someone else suggested, and cover it with your own details for use at a (much) later stage? Do you attempt a sneaky plonk and run at the cemetery?

Contacting the cemetery, it could all be sorted out in a few minutes, surely? No, there are permits to have, permits to buy, and the further services of the stonemason. Persistence and a resistance to “telephone-ear” is required, as I phoned one administrator after another. We don’t have the right of burial? Well, sorry, you can proceed no further. The departed had organised the gravestone to mark his own grave? Too bad, the owners of the grave (the departed?) need to give approval…

Perseverance paid off, with no less than the director of the cemetery coming to collect the monument (good to know the technical term), for storage until permission was gained. Poor departed, finally he can rest in peace.

Abuse Can Be A Killer

There are many ways to abuse an individual. You might be able to abuse them mentally, You might be able to abuse them sexually, You could even abuse them psychically, There is no reason why members of our society have to endure abuse of any kind. We meed to set tougher punishments for abusers of all kinds.

There seems to be a sickness that runs across our country and it doesn't get talked about very often. The sickness that I am talking about is abuse. There are litterally thousands of children who are being abused in this country. It is time to give these children a voice. We need to stop turning our heads the other way and to take action. Child abuse takes place in all social class classes. The rich have a child abuse problem the same as the poor class. Abuse doesn't know a dollar figure.

Child abuse is a terrible crime to commit against a child. I am talking about psychical, sexual and mental abuse. Children are placed in our care by God and we are suppose to love them. They are not a whipping post to vent your daily stress and anger. They are fragile and they depend on those who care for them. There are foster children, step children and children who are with family members. You need to love them and teach them morals and values. They become a reflection of what they are taught.

The worst kind oft crime you can committ with a child is sexual abuse. It is absolutely reprehensible. There are other ways to relieve your sexual stress. If you can't control your urges then you should seek help about yoiur sexual disfunction. There are therapist who specialize in this area and you shouldn't be ashamed to seek out help. This type of abuse leaves scars on an individual for years.

There is nothing worse than verbally abusing a child. Simple statements like he must be an idiot or he must be stupid can affect a childs self esteem. It is hard for a child to develop a positive image of themselves without some one putting thenm down all the time. Children have to deal with peer pressure at school and there always seems to be that bully that call them names as well. The best gift that we can give to a child is the confidence to be a strong and moral adult.
