Glass Mosaic Tile Art: Mixing Grout

Making wonderful glass mosaic tile art is easy! Let me show you how.

The amount of grout for your mosaic project depends on two basic variables: 1) the size of your piece, and 2) the width of your joints. Obviously, smaller joints require less grout. It’s important to mix more than you think you’ll need to ensure you don’t run out. This is especially true when using colored grout to ensure color consistency unless you intend for your piece to have varying shades of grout.

If you have a brand new box of grout, you’ll probably use only a small portion of it. Don’t dump the whole box into a bucket of water! If this is your first time grouting a mosaic, put what you think is enough into your mixing container and then add at least half that amount (i.e., mix about 1.5 times what you think you need). When you’re finished grouting, observe how much you throw away so you can better estimate how much you’ll need for your next project. (You’ll learn from my eBook the approximate amount of grout you’ll need for your project.)

The first rule of mixing grout is to read and follow safety precautions on the bag and then read and follow the label instructions. After reading the bag’s label, go somewhere away from your mosaic so you don’t splash wet grout on it while mixing (e.g., go outside or to the opposite end of the garage). Scoop enough grout powder into your mixing container. Slowly add small amounts of water and mix using a paint stirring stick. Some grout brands are “polymer modified,” which means acrylic latex has already been added to the powder. If the grout already contains the additive, the bag says in easy-to-read print, “polymer modified” or similar words. If the grout doesn’t already contain the additive, then you may choose to mix the grout with an admixture instead of water. As noted in the eBook, I never bother adding acrylic latex for my indoor mosaics. Plain hose water works just fine for me.

Add small amounts of water at a time and thoroughly mix it. Don’t pour in all the water at once. Don’t make the grout too runny by adding too much water. Take your time and mix in a little bit of water at a time. When it’s almost at the right consistency, just a teaspoon more water can be too much. So, take your time.

Don’t make the grout too runny. This is important so let’s say it again together, “Don’t make the grout too runny.” I use thick, pasty grout because it’s easier to wipe off without digging into the joints. The technical reason for not making it runny is that too much water makes the grout weaker and more susceptible to staining. So, thicker is better. My favorite consistency is like thick toothpaste or cookie dough (that’s thick toothpaste, not runny toothpaste). Some books say to make it like pudding or mayonnaise, but that’s too thin for me.

After thoroughly mixing the grout, I use the paint stirring stick to scoop some up and hold it over the container. If it drips off the stick into the container, then it’s way too thin. I like it so it stays in place on the stick and doesn’t droop or sag.

If you accidentally pour in too much water and make the grout too runny, simply add a little more grout powder to thicken it. Add just a teaspoon of grout powder at a time. A small amount of grout powder can change it from runny to just right. If you add too much grout, it’ll be too thick and then you’ll have to add a few drops of water to thin it. You’ll be caught in an endless loop of adding grout to thicken it, then adding water to thin it. So, add small amounts. After your first grout job, you’ll get a feel for how much to add, so it’ll be easier the next time you do this.

When you get the right consistency, thoroughly mix the grout to ensure there’s no remaining powder and no lumps. I like to wipe the sides of the container with the paint stirring stick to get all the powder off the sides. I don’t like any unmixed powder anywhere in the container.

The effects of playing video games are that they allow people to strengthen their hand eye coordination, improve their problem-solving skills, relieve stress, improve social development and create new social network.

The first one would be the improvement of the hand-eye coordination. A player has to watch the screen while simultaneously he pushes the button of his joystick to make moves. It also increases the speed and agility of a person to respond to a stimulus. Moreover, it helps to improve the motor skills of a person. We can especially demonstrate this idea with the console wii, which has been released and built a couple of years ago by the brand Nintendo. With its new gaming system, the wii has revolved the world of video games. Before the wii came out, the gaming system consisted only of pushing on a couple of buttons in order to make the moves in the game. But the concept of the wii is different; it consists of producing our own movement with the remote of the wii in order to make the moves in the game. Due to its successfulness, even some hospitals are using the wii to rehabilitate some patients. In short, video games will strengthen people’s hand eye coordination.

Next, players can relieve their stress while playing video games. They can get away from their everyday life, break their daily routine and allow them to cool off their stress. For example, people can play shooting games and release all their stress by killing other people in the game. It’s kind of a violent way but it is one of the best ways to release stress. Furthermore, it could help people take out their anger through the game rather in real life because they are fun and interesting way to spend time. In addition, video games help people in social development. Video games help in social development because they allow people to talk about games when they are in a nervous situation. For example, if a person was transferring to a new neighborhood and he didn’t know anybody around him, he could easily start up a conversation with the nearest person. Playing video games allow him to make friends because they can talk about games with his new friends and most of the people nowadays like to play games. Also video games help in social development because they allow other player to become diverse in different areas, while playing games. For example a person might be used to playing sports games but met a new friend who introduced him to the adventure game. So, by playing video games, it will help people with their social development.

Finally, video games that involves online multi-player gaming has created a completely new social network. Now, a person consider people they have never met to be close friends, so the person will get to know each other without taking into account of race, gender or nationality. The person learns to listen to the ideas of others, prepare plans together, and distribute tasks based on skills which benefit the development of leadership skills. Research has proven that a person with a lack of self confidence is seen to be gaining help from playing video games. The results of this research has shown that the children gets a sense of participation and a sense of achievement, thus building his self-confidence, which enable them to defeat their weakness to a certain extent. To conclude, playing video games will create a new social network.

How a Hobbie Became a Business?

How being poor was a advantage for me? Being poor I had to learn to make things and be creative. That is how I learned what my natural abilities where. This article describes how I marketed thing and didn't even realize I was marketing. Then people asked me to make things for them.

I was a stay at home mom. I had no education! My education level was tenth grade. I came from a very poor back ground.So I acquired a lot of skills. Simply because my family was too poor to just go out to buy things. I loved to bake cakes. I had a natural ability to decorate cakes. I made amazing cakes for all my kids' birthdays. Cakes you could never buy in stores.

One year I made a cake. Every mother that brought there kids to my son's birthday party couldn't get over my creativity. Not long after that I was baking cakes. I never intended to profit from my creations. But I did!

I also made my school clothes. I remember one dress I made that was two dresses in one. All you had to do is turn the dress inside out. Instantly you had a different dress.

I thought that was the neatest thing. I showed everybody in school. My idea caught on quick. Everybody wanted one! The first few dresses I didn't charge anything because I didn't think I could make money. Then I ran out of material. I felt bad to ask for money but realized nobody had a problem paying.

I had so many requests I couldn't keep up. I had to pay someone to do my house work.

I made as much money if not more then my husband. That was the happiest I have ever been


Then we moved! No more dress making! No more cake making! I was lonely and bored. So I went to the craft store. I seen some oil paintings and thought to myself. I bet I could do that. That day I purchased my first kit.

I come home from school one day. I was painting a picture of me and my horse. My husband came home from work. The first thing he said when he walked through the door. What's that smell? Paint I said! He looked to see what I was painting. He's like I didn't know you could paint. I said I didn't know it either. Before I knew it I was painting portraits.

The point is I never intended to make a profit. I never advertised! My exposure was from word of mouth. My work was unique! My work sold itself!

Today with the internet I might have gotten more exposure. The truth is you can't see the quality and uniqueness of my work with a picture.

I may have made some money from the internet but nowhere near what I made from word of mouth...

Once the screw is removed , you can easily slide the battery pack out of the back of the system then removed the final two screws from the back of the console.

 Now, you can slowly lay your Wii console flat on its side and locate stickers which on the top and bottom left corners on console. You need to remove those stickers in order to unscrew the screw which underneath the sticker. Remove the rubber feet from the top and bottom right corners of the system and take out the screw from underneath each. Make sure you keep those screw properly as those screws are needed once re-assemble back the console.

After that, you can turn the console so that the black face is pointing upwards. Then unscrew each of the three screws from the bottom side of the black faceplate. You easily can slide out the faceplate once the screws are removed. After the faceplate removed, you need to unscrew the four remaining screws. The front section of the Wii now will be loose. Now , you can disconnect the console by unplug all those wire which lead to the inside.

Once you completed above step, you can easily slide off the top plastic cover of the Wii console. By doing so, the console’s internal component are exposed, located the large metal covering that takes up the majority of the inside of the console. You can remove this piece by lifting it up and out from the console.

The final step is to remove the CD drive by unscrewing the screw from each corner that the metal piece was covering. Once the CD drive is free, tilt the drive on its side and look underneath to see the two wires that lead off of the drive. Follow the wires to the body of the Wii and pull up on the small plastic tab that holds the wires in place. Once the two tabs are released, the CD drive will be able to be lifted from the system. To reassemble the Wii, put each component back to exactly where it was removed.
