Advice for Ice Cream makers

Ice cream makers have been around for a while now, they have improved to the extent that you do not have to wait three or four hours for your ice cream to be ready for the table. There are two different types on the market, there is the manual type that involves some small physical effort on your part to produce the ice cream,or there is the more expensive electric type which makes the process much easier.

The manual type can be time consuming and a bit messy when making ice cream, they have a large bowl that contains a smaller bowl inside it, this is where the hand cranking mechanism can be found. You fill the outer bowl with ice and salt to provide the cooling power for the ice cream, this fusion occurs when the salt melts the ice it takes the heat away from the ice cream in the inner bowl causing it to freeze.

With the manual type after the salt has melted the ice it leaves you with salt water in the outer bowl, which you have to dispose of before you start another batch.

The more expensive electric type is much easier to use,it is not as messy as the manual type and you can produce ice cream in 20 to 30 minutes with certain brands. With certain types of electric ice cream makers you have to put the bowl in the freezer for the process to work, this can take time and could be a problem if you do not have enough room in the freezer.

If you want the easiest way to make your home made ice cream, then a stand alone unit would be the right choice. This type have everything built in them, you just add your ingredients and switch it on,then go do something else while the ice cream maker produces your ice cream.

These units can be quite large and take up some room in your kitchen,so make sure you have a space for it before you purchase the machine. The reason for this is that on some machines they cannot be moved for twelve hours as this upsets the cooling mechanism in the machine, you would normally keep this type of maker in a permanent position in your kitchen. They are more expensive than other ice cream makers on the market, but for the time saved and ease of use it is worth it.

The best thing about having your own ice cream maker is that you can create a great ice cream with the ingredients and flavor of your choice, there are tried and tested recipies out there that you can use,but why not be creative and try different ingredients and flavors.

How English Tea Came About

The origin of tea, for some valuable reasons, has no definite story.  It is considerable that the use of tea as a beverage which is drunk for pleasure on social occasions dates from the Tang Dynasty or even earlier.  However, when the tea is introduced to Europe, the Portuguese explorers were the first to encounter tea.  The dissemination continues and reached England, which then is the beginning of the emergence of English tea.

For such historical event, the English tea is noted to have attributed to Catherine of Braganza who is a Portuguese princess and the consort of Charles II of England.  It is also noted that the emergence of English tea dates from about 1650.

According to some studies, the English tea was introduced to England through the effort of the London coffee houses.  One of the remarkable English to offer English tea was Thomas Garway, a coffee house merchant who owned as establishment in Exchange Alley.  And it is considerable to note that Thomas Garway sold both liquid and dry English tea to the public as early as 1657.

With such effort, the English tea gained popularity speedily in the coffee houses, and amazingly by 1700 over 500 coffee houses sold English tea.  And with such introduction, the English tea became well known as having virtues at making the body alive and brawny and at preserving perfect health until extreme old age. Later on, the English tea had become the lucky drink of England's lower classes.

Following to the event that took place during the early part of the introduction of the English tea, many events happened such as the England taxation for English tea, and spreading shipment of English tea.  At that time, the English tea was then shipped from Holland and Scandinavia to the British coast.    For most English people, the English tea was the most pleasurable source of livelihood, and as such many English tea gardens including the emergence of the English tea customs were established.

After the massive establishment of many English tea gardens, it is noted that for most English people, the English tea is healthful and natural.  This is due to the fact that as we all know, the tea or in particular the English tea contains less caffeine per cup than coffee.  As such, the low amount of caffeine in the English tea has been recognized to sustain energy levels without stuffy effects. And for good reason, the refined reactions of the English tea provide a touch of reposeful alertness while sustaining energy.

Finally, the pleasure given by the English tea is worthwhile because enjoying a cup of English tea costs only pennies a cup, depending on the level of irregularity of the mixture.  It is as well noted that even a cup of the irregular lose English tea only costs less than some ordinary bagged English teas which then allowed that English tea consumers everywhere to afford the pleasure given by a fine cup of English tea.

Learn About The Basic Steps in Bread-making

Believe it or not, baking your very own homemade bread does not involve rocket science. Some people think that baking is difficult because you'd really try to follow instructions precisely so that you will get the texture and taste of your bread right. Although, the easiest way to have bread is to buy them at grocery shops, for some, commercially-made bread does not really suit their tastes and they'd rather opt for baking their own homemade bread, as tedious as it may seem at first.

Let me tell you that there is nothing like smelling the succulent aroma of good bread you actually baked yourself. Admittedly, it takes lots of practice before you'd be able to produce the perfect loaf of bread. On your first few baking ventures, you will end up with loaves so hard that you can't eat them anymore. Trial & error is something that you would need to go through when trying to create your very own homemade bread. Also, you must also learn baking the traditional way, even if your kitchen is stocked with all the modern tools that you would need. For instance, you should learn kneading your dough with your hands and not rely on electric mixers every time.

If you really want to get into baking, you should know some basic stuff, like flour and yeast. There are lots of these flour types available in today's market, but the very best one that you should use still is your basic bread flour. Its high gluten content produces great results when it comes to taste and texture. Use bread flour on your first few attempts when you're baking. When you're already getting the hang of it, that's when you're ready to experiment using other types of flour during baking, you could use whole-wheat flour for healthier variety of breads.

Yeast is really a very fickle baking ingredient. This organism likes sugar and warmed water. Water that is very cold or very hot will end up killing your yeast. So in order to control yeast, you'll need to put in salt into your baking mixture. Without salt, your yeast will get out of control then eat up everything.

Starters are very important for novice bakers. This is especially true if you want to make good sourdough breads. The taste and texture of sourdough bread relies heavily on yeast quality. This is why sourdough bread in San Francisco tastes better than those made in other places. The reason behind it is that the natural yeast present in San Francisco's air is really ideal for making sourdough.

Weather also plays a considerable part in producing quality bread. It basically dictates the amount of flour that you'll need. Dry weather means that you should use lesser amounts of flour and humid conditions require additional flour

Stuffed Jalapeños

These are very popular here in the Southwest. This is one version of the recipe, there are many. Makes 16 jalapenos Prep: 1 hour, Cook: 4 minutes, Fry: 2-3 minutes per batch.

I have never heard of Stuffed Jalapeño's until I met my husband. I have learned to cook a lot of Mexican dishes from him and his mother.  Mexican food is his favorite and I have learned to love it too.  I hope you enjoy this recipe from my mother-in-law.

INGREDIENTS:

16 medium-large jalapeño chiles

TO MAKE THE FILLING: 2 pkgs (3oz ea) cream cheese, room temperature, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (4 oz), 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 1/2 tsp dried oregano, 2 Tbls milk.

TO MAKE THE COATING: 2 eggs, 1/4 cup packaged unseasoned bread crumbs, 1/2 cup all purpose flour, 1/4 tsp ground cumin, 1/4 tsp chili powder, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 quart oil, for frying.

Directions:

Slice jalapeños in half lengthwise, leaving chile halves attached at stem.

Remove seeds and the white membranes. For hotter chiles, leave white membranes intact.

Bring medium-large pot of water to boiling. Add chiles; cook for 4 minutes. Drain; pat dry; let cool.

FILLING: Beat cream cheese, cheddar, salt, pepper, oregano and milk in bowl. Transfer to plastic food storage bag; snip off corner.

COATING: Lightly beat eggs in shallow dish. In second dish, whisk together crumbs, 1/4 cup flour, the cumin, chili powder and salt. In third dish, spread remaining 1/4 cup flour.

Heat oil in medium size heavy saucepan until it registers 375 degrees on deep-fat frying thermometer. Heat oven to 200 degrees.

Pipe cheese filling into softened chiles; gently press chiles together to seal. Lightly coat with nonstick cooking spray. Coat with flour. Dip chiles in egg, then crumb mixture.

Working in batches, about 3 or 4 chilies per batch, fry the chilies in oil 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown. Using a slotted spoon, transfer chilies to baking sheet; keep warm in oven. When oil returns to 375 degrees, fry remaining batches of chilies.

How to Make an Amazing Pumpkin Pie

I am a sucker for a good pumpkin pie. This is one of the better recipes that I have found (and I eat a lot of pie!). This pie is a great addition to any Thanksgiving smorgasbord, or a nice treat during the Halloween festivities.

Step 1

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. While you are waiting for the oven to heat mix the sugar, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves in small bowl. You can also beat the eggs in a large bowl now, but I prefer to wait until the oven has hit 425, so that they don’t settle. Have your pie crust already to receive the ingredients.

Step 2

Stir in pumpkin and sugar-spice mixture into the eggs and gradually stir in the evaporated milk. You want to go slowly with the milk because it is heavy and will not mix as evenly if you pour it all in at once.

Step 3

Pour everything into the pie shell that you had already waiting, and bake for 15 minutes at 425. Reduce the temperature (after the 15 minutes has passed) to 350 degrees; bake for 40-50 minutes or until you can poke the middle of the pie with a toothpick or a knife and it comes out clean.

Step 4

Let the pie cool on a rack for at least two hours prior to serving, or if you won’t be serving it for longer than that, refrigerate it. It goes without saying that all pumpkin pie should be served with a liberal dollop of whipped cream (not the stuff in the can, Cool Whip).

There you have it.  One of the most delicious pies that I have tasted.  Of course it goes without saying that a pumpkin pie should be on every table come Halloween or Thanksgiving, so give this one a whirl at your next get together and you won't be dissapointed.
